SORRY, I OVERSLEPT
Many people ask me about sleep and Yoga and whether Yoga is a good substitute for sleep. When I had a daily routine that included 2-3 hours of Yoga and Meditation, I needed less sleep and could in fact survive on just over 4 hours a day. I was tired but able to function well for weeks on end.
However, since teaching yoga and building my business takes a lot more time than I have, i was guilty of sacrificing sleep. I have to admit, I am not super human and it eventually catches up with everyone. This week for the 2nd time in a row, I slept right through my alarm.
We cover a lot of nutrition and advice over at http://wandsworthpoweryoga.com Diet can play a massive part in the quantity and quality of sleep but at the end of the day, if you or I are working hard and not getting enough rest, we need to basically get to bed earlier. Cutting out wheat and sugar are key to restoring a natural and buoyant energy. Finish drinking caffeinated drinks by 4pm and if you are drinking more than 125ml of wine in an evening, you are not sleeping, you are unconscious.
Bottom line, 7 to 9 hours of sleep on average are needed. The National Sleep Foundation says it may be appropriate to get between 6 and 10 hours but 7 to 9 are recommended. http://sleepfoundation.org/how-sleep-works/how-much-sleep-do-we-really-need
So this Yogi is going to work on getting to bed by 10 or 11pm every night to sort out some much needed rest and repose. Share your sleep stories with us on facebook at www.facebook.com/wandsworthpoweryoga
